# 8. To the Rector's Office of the Imperial and Royal Technical University in Vienna

> Source: TUWA, Minutes of the Rector's Office of the Imperial and Royal Technical University in Vienna, 1881, 5. 3741... Line 934: “[Request] for deuo [= approval of examination] in thermodynamics /: general physics :/”
> *About this letter*: As can be deduced from the entry in the minutes book of the Rector's Office in 1881, Rudolf Steiner had submitted a request for permission to take the examination in thermodynamics with Prof. Viktor Pierre. This was probably a special permission, as it was likely a make-up exam; thermodynamics had been taught in the winter semester of 1880/81, and the exercises usually took place at the end of the semester, i.e., in March.
