    "text": "## Chapter  XLIX.\n\nOf  the  lovely  Name  of  Jesus. \nThe  Servitor  of  the  Eternal  Wisdom  once \nmade  a  journey  from  the  upper  country  to  Aix- \nla-Chapelle,  to  visit  our  dear  Lady.     And  on \n\n\n250  LIFE  OF  BLESSED  HENRY  SUSO. \n\nhis  return,  our  dear  Lady  appeared  to  a  holy \nperson,  and  said: — Behold,  my  Child's  Servitor \nhas  come  hither,  and  he  has  carried  about  His \nsweet  Name  of  Jesus  far  and  wide,  with  the \nsame  ardent  desire  with  which  His  Apostles  of \nold  carried  it;  and  just  as  their  desire  was  to \nmake  all  men  know  this  Name  through  the \npreaching  of  the  faith,  even  so  all  his  strivings \nhave  been  to  set  all  cold  hearts  on  fire  with \nnew  love  for  this  Name  of  Jesus.  Therefore \nhe  shall  receive,  after  his  death,  an  everlasting \nreward  with  them. \n\nAfterwards,  this  holy  person  saw  our  dear \nLady  holding  a  beautiful  candle  in  her  hand, \nand  it  burned  so  beautifully  that  its  light  shone \nthroughout  the  whole  world ;  and  all  round  and \nround  the  candle  the  Name  of  Jesus  was  writ- \nten. Then  our  dear  Lady  said  to  this  person  : — \nBehold,  this  burning  candle  signifies  the  Name \nof  Jesus,  because  He  in  very  truth  illuminates \nthe  hearts  of  all  who  receive  His  Name  with \ndevotion,  and  pay  it  honour,  and  bear  it  lov- \ningly about  with  them.  To  this  end,  my  Child \nhas  chosen  out  His  Servitor,  that  devotion  to \nHis  Name  may  be  lit  up  through  him  in  the \nhearts  of  many,  and  that  these  may  be  helped \nonwards  by  him  to  everlasting  bliss. \n\n\nTHE  NAME  OF  JESUS.  251 \n\nWhen  this  holy  maiden,  of  whom  mention \nhas  been  made  above,  perceived  that  her  spirit- \nual father  was  so  devout  to,  and  had  such  firm \nfaith  in,  the  loving  Name  of  Jesus,  which  he \nbore  upon  his  breast  over  his  heart,  she  con- \nceived a  great  and  peculiar  love  for  it,  and  out \nof  devotion  she  marked  the  Name  of  Jesus  in  red \nsilk  on  a  little  piece  of  cloth,  in  the  following \nform:  IHS — and  wore  it  secretly  upon  her- \nself. She  also  made  an  almost  countless  number \nof  similar  Names,  and  persuaded  the  Servitor  to \nlay  them  on  his  bare  heart,  and  then  send  them, \nwith  a  blessing  from  God,  to  his  spiritual  chil- \ndren in  different  parts.  Moreover,  it  was  re- \nvealed to  her  by  God  that  those  who  bore  the \nName  upon  them,  and  said  daily  with  devotion \nan  \"Our  Father\"  in  honour  of  it,  would  be \ntreated  lovingly  by  God  in  this  world,  and \nwould  find  grace  before  Him  at  their  last \npassage. \n\nSuch  were  the  austere  exercises  and  such \nthe  godly  examples  of  Jesus  Christ  and  His  dear \nfriends,  according  to  which  the  beginnings  of \nthis  holy  maiden's  spiritual  life  were  fashioned. \n\n\n252  LIFE  OF  BLESSED  HENRY  SUSO.",
